Soul Conversations

Dear Soul Friends,

It is a crisp windy September morning. Deep purple leaves gently falling from a Norway Maple decorate the terrace. Robins happily peck away at berries on the dogwood tree and a squirrel scurries about collecting acorns in preparation for the coming winter. I am wrapped in a cozy blanket to ward off the brisk morning air. Autumn has arrived in New England.

For the next few weeks each day presents an opportunity to be delighted by the beauty of Mother Earth. Often, it’s the small things that bring joy—the first yellow leaf on a Ginko tree, the first frost on the tips of the cattails out in the wetlands, the laughter of small children as they race after a red leaf spiraling down from a maple tree. Or it could be the vast glory of colorful trees spanning a hilltop that invites us to linger and stare at the magnificent display of Creation’s beauty. We may even be stopped by a chance to witness rams moving from their summer pasture to their winter home, an old New England autumn chore made new again. When we recognize the thrill and joy of being alive, we tap into our soul’s energy.

In her poem, Wild Geese, Mary Oliver wrote,

Ten times a day something happens to me like this ~

some strengthening throb of amazement ~

some good sweet empathic ping and swell.

This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know:

that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness.

I am excited to tell you my book Soul Conversations: A Pilgrimage of the Heart has been published. It is the story of how I have listened to and for my soul’s wisdom and how that listening has shaped my life. It is also an invitation for readers to learn ways to listen to their own soul’s wisdom and guidance. It is my hope that my soul story will help others learn to cherish their soul stories and hear them sing.

As you journey through your week may you be blessed with moments of autumn beauty and may you know that you are encircled and surrounded by Holy light and love.

Deep peace to you,

Susan
